Protected Power Switching Devices are Everywhere

Protected Power Switch devices are everywhere. A high-end, multi-feature smart watch can have as many as 6 devices in a single watch. They are used to turn on and off various functions from backlights to vibration devices to sensors. By turning systems off, they improve system efficiency and save battery power. They also offer protection features and can route power between systems.

Power Switch devices can be found across the IoT and electronics world: in smart phones, mobile health devices, laptops, remote sensors, wearables, SSD modules, off batteries, and even controlling processor power rails. The devices are used because they are simple to implement, they are ultra efficient, and they are optimized for their function . They are often not integrated because, surprisingly, integrated solutions can be significantly less efficient. Furthermore, integration is significantly less flexible.
